Summary
In this chapter, the three-dimensional framework by Stern, Exploratory Practice framework by Allwright, and macro-strategic framework by Kumaravadivelu were discussed. These frameworks all aim to transcend the limitations of traditional language teaching methods and move towards a postmethod pedagogy. However, they are not complete postmethod pedagogies in themselves and serve as a foundation for teachers to construct their own location-specific postmethod pedagogies.
It is important to note that postmethod pedagogy is not a fixed approach but rather an evolving concept that requires practicing teachers to develop their own pedagogies based on the offered options and operating principles. The shift towards postmethod pedagogy signals the profession’s willingness to explore alternatives to traditional methods rather than finding alternative methods, which have failed in the past. However, there are still many challenges and obstacles to be overcome on the path towards postmethod pedagogy.
